PWDs among injured as rival groups clash in Kisii
Several people, including People Living With Disabilities ( PWDs) were injured at Nyakeyo primary school in South Mugirango constituency, Etago Sub-County, Kisii county after rival youths clashed.
Sub-County Police Commander, Laban Omol, said the youths, armed with crude weapons stormed the school where County Woman Rep, Dorice Donya Aburi was to give wheelchairs to the disabled. He said one person was arrested with arrows and is being held to help police with the probe while another was hurt and rushed to hospital, adding the suspect will be charged with causing disturbance.
“ The attackers used stones and sticks. They pulled down the tents. I cannot know the number of those injured. We are pursuing more suspects” Omol told the Press.
Donya said the goons, armed with stones, sticks whistled as they invaded the venue and attacked residents.
She implored the police officers to officers to ensure they face the law, stressing, it was wrong for them to disrupt the event. The lawmaker, who gave 90 wheel hairs to people living with disabilities said she was used to violence and will not be intimidated and cowed to abandon serving residents of the county. She said during the attack, several people living with disability and their caregivers were scared. Scampered for the safety, adding others were injured.
The MP said it was wrong to attack People living with disabilities and appealed to security officers to ensure the suspects revealed those who hired them to disrupt the event.
“ I have more boreholes to launch and wheelchairs to give to people living with disability to uplift their lives. Violence will not stop me” Donya said, stressing, that she has more work to do for the residents.
