Public viewing of Raila’s body moved to Kasarani due to uncontrollable crowd

By , October 16, 2025

The Government has announced a change in the venue for the public viewing of the late former Prime Minister, Raila Amollo Odinga. The viewing, which was initially scheduled to take place at Parliament Buildings, will now be held at Kasarani Stadium due to uncontrollable crowd.

In a public statement released by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), officials urged members of the public to proceed directly to Kasarani Stadium to pay their respects. The decision follows reports of large crowds attempting to enter Parliament Buildings, which posed challenges for security personnel.

“The Government wishes to inform members of the public of a change in venue for the public viewing of the body of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga,” the UDA statement read.

“The viewing will now be held at Kasarani Stadium and not at Parliament Buildings as earlier announced. Members of the public are therefore advised to proceed to Kasarani Stadium for the viewing.”

Viewing moved to Kasarani

The veteran politician passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Kochi, India, following a cardiac arrest. Odinga, aged 80, served as Kenya’s Prime Minister and was widely respected for his role in promoting political dialogue and national unity.

The public viewing at Kasarani Stadium is part of a broader state funeral programme. Following the viewing, the State Funeral Service will take place at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, starting at 8 am. President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, visiting heads of state, and other dignitaries are expected to attend the service. Later in the evening, the body will be moved to Odinga’s Karen residence for an overnight vigil with family and close friends.

On Saturday, the body will be transported to Kisumu, where it will lie in state at Moi Stadium. The funeral procession will conclude with the burial at Odinga’s home in Bondo, Siaya County, on Sunday, in accordance with Anglican Church traditions.
