PS Omollo to leaders: Let’s not use our young people to settle political scores

By , July 17, 2026

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has appealed to political leaders to stop using young people to settle political scores, saying such actions lead to loss of lives and destruction of property.

Omollo made the remarks on July 17, 2026, during the funeral service of the late Mwalimu Daniel Oluoch Wandayi in Muhola Village, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County.

The ceremony was attended by ODM leader Oburu Odinga, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Members of Parliament and other government officials.

“I want to appeal to the leadership here that let’s not use our young people to settle our political scores, things that will lead to loss of lives, destruction of property,” Omollo said.

Addressing the youth, he urged them not to allow themselves to be used by political leaders.

“I want to challenge and encourage you not to be allowed or not to allow yourself to be used by any leader. And if there is a leader that you don’t like, please keep away from their functions. Wait for the one that you like, attend their functions. If you don’t like them, you can go about your business and do many, many other things,” he said.

Siaya to get more administrative units

Earlier in his address, Omollo said the government was expanding access to public services through the creation of additional administrative units.

He announced that Sikalame Division is being operationalised, with a new Assistant County Commissioner expected to report next week.

The principal secretary also said the government had advertised positions for chiefs and assistant chiefs in new locations and sub-locations.

Omollo noted that Siaya has fewer administrative units than neighbouring counties, including Migori, Homa Bay and Kisumu.

He said the government had held discussions with the relevant Cabinet Secretary, the area’s Member of Parliament and the Siaya County leadership to prioritise the county during the next gazettement of administrative units.

“We have discussed with the CS, we have discussed with your MP, and the leadership of Siaya County that in the next round of gazettement of new administrative units, we will try and give priority to the administrative units in Siaya County,” he said.

Calls for higher SHA registration

On healthcare, Omollo said registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA) in Siaya stood at 52 per cent and called on residents and local leaders to help increase the uptake.

He noted that neighbouring Kisumu County had recorded almost 70 per cent registration and urged Siaya residents to ensure more people enrol so they can benefit from government health programmes.

The Principal Secretary also called on parents to ensure children remain in school, saying the government had continued to invest heavily in education.

He noted that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions had been established across constituencies to equip young people with skills for employment.

“Let not allow our children not to benefit from the resources that the government has dedicated because education is the biggest equalizer that any of us can attain,” Omollo said.

The funeral honoured the late Mwalimu Daniel Oluoch Wandayi, the elder brother of Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who was remembered for his contribution to education and community service.
