PS Omollo commends IEBC for registering 2.3M voters during recent exercise
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 15, 2026Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo, has commended the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for recording what he described as impressive results during the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise that ended on April 28.
Speaking during a multi-sectoral meeting held in Nairobi on Friday, May 15, 2026, Omollo noted that the commission came close to achieving its target of registering 2.5 million voters after successfully registering 2.3 million people across the country.
“First of all, I would like to commend the team at IEBC under the leadership of the chair; for the first time, you set out to register 2.5 million, and you returned with 2.3 million, and that is an impressive 92 per cent score. If you look at what happened in the past, this is a worthy celebration,” PS Raymond stated

According to the principal secretary, the figure translates to about 92 per cent of the target, which he termed a major improvement compared to previous voter registration drives.
Omollo said the achievement was worth celebrating, noting that in the past, the commission struggled to come close to its registration targets during similar exercises. He observed that the latest outcome reflected increased public participation and improved mobilisation efforts by the electoral body.
He also called on the media to help publicise the registration numbers and other electoral milestones, saying this would help build public confidence in the electoral process and encourage more citizens to participate in future exercises.
The ECVR exercise was conducted by the IEBC as part of preparations for upcoming electoral activities, with the commission seeking to increase the number of registered voters across the country.
IEBC announcement
This comes days after IEBC announced that more than 2.3 million new voters were registered during the just-concluded 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) Phase I exercise, marking a major step in preparations for the 2027 General Election.

According to Ethekon, for many Kenyans approaching the next election cycle, voter registration remains the first and most important step in participating in national leadership decisions, making the latest figures significant for both the commission and political players.
The IEBC said the exercise was designed to improve access, strengthen inclusivity, and ensure more citizens were able to register easily within their wards, constituencies, Huduma Centres, and institutions of higher learning.
