Preparations are in top gear ahead of the fifth edition of the Beyond Zero Half Marathon slated for March 8 in Nairobi.

The race, an initiative of First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, is targeting Sh250 million to go towards the refurbishment of health facilities as well as kick-start the process of setting up a specialised Beyond Zero referral health facility.

This is in line with the First Lady’s commitment to advocate initiatives aimed at improving provision of quality healthcare to women and children.

To achieve the target, the race targets  25,000 participants with the winners of the 21km event, for both men and women, set to receive Sh2 million each.

The race enjoys corporate goodwill with a number of companies boosting its coffers with handsome sponsorship packages.

Mediamax Network Limited donated Sh11 million last week with National Bank of Kenya the latest, after boosting the event with Sh5 million yesterday.

“Through funds raised, we will commit resources towards this investment through building, refurbishing, modeling and equipping a specialised healthcare unit,” said the First Lady.
