Power outage to hit parts of 5 counties on Monday, September 8
Kenya Power has announced a series of planned power interruptions scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, to facilitate routine maintenance of its electricity network. The outages will affect parts of Nyeri, Murang’a, Meru, West Pokot, and Siaya counties.
In a notice issued on Sunday, September 7, 2025 the utility firm said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to boost service reliability and ensure a more stable power supply nationwide. The company noted that while the maintenance will temporarily inconvenience customers, the work is crucial for strengthening the grid and reducing unplanned blackouts.
Nyeri County
In Nyeri, the affected areas will include Kangubiri and Ithekahuno, with the outage expected to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Locations set to be impacted include Sagana Falls Power Station, Ihigaini, Kaigonde, Kangubiri Girls, parts of Muthemba, Gititu Dispensary, and surrounding markets and trading centres.
Murang’a County
Customers around Kagaa and Cornstar Millers will experience interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Key facilities affected include Kagaa Getune Primary school, Elephant Hotel, Cornstar Millers, Kagaa Secondary School, and nearby businesses. Additionally, the Gacharage and Mununga areas will also face day-long outages.

Meru County
Parts of Meru will experience disruptions from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., particularly in Igoji, Kinoro, and Kathigu. Affected institutions include Igoji Teachers Training College, Igoji Mission Hospital, Meru County offices, several schools, markets, and health centres, along with adjacent neighbourhoods.
West Pokot County
In the North Rift region, Chepnyal in West Pokot County will also be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting schools, trading centres, and surrounding villages such as Kapombo, Chepkopogh, and Tamugh.

Siaya County
In the western region, parts of Boro in Siaya County will experience a shorter outage from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Affected areas include Malaha School, Mbaga Mission, Bishop Okoth Girls, and surrounding customers.
Kenya Power has urged customers in the listed areas to plan accordingly and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing upgrades of its distribution network to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
