Police seize cannabis rolls, cakes in surprise raid in Kibra

By , May 16, 2026

Police in Kibra Sub-County have arrested a person of interest linked to drug trafficking and seized assorted cannabis products during an intelligence-led operation targeting narcotics distribution networks in the area.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via X on Saturday, May 16, 2026, said the operation, conducted by officers from Kibra Police Station in Lindi, was based on intelligence reports linking the person of interest to the ongoing sale and distribution of illegal drugs within the estate.

According to police, the person of interest was caught off guard during the raid while rolling cannabis cigarettes, believed to be ready for street distribution.

Officers said the operation was carefully coordinated and aimed at dismantling a network of narcotics suppliers operating in the densely populated neighbourhood.

“Amid this growing concern, officers from Kibra Police Station yesterday conducted a well-coordinated covert operation in Lindi, Kibra Sub-County, Nairobi Region. Acting on intelligence reports, the officers targeted a notorious and elusive narcotics trafficker believed to have been operating in the area for some time,” the NPS stated.

“The raid caught the suspect completely off guard, with officers finding him actively rolling sticks of cannabis sativa, preparing the narcotics for distribution.”

Cannabis rolls, cakes recovered

Police say a search of the person of interest’s premises led to the recovery of several drug-related exhibits, including 86 rolls of cannabis sativa prepared in cigarette form, approximately 200 grams of unprocessed cannabis sativa, 8 cannabis cakes believed to be intended for sale, and 25 rolling papers used in packaging narcotics.

Police said the recovered items indicated an active distribution operation targeting local users.

The arrested individual is currently in police custody pending arraignment in court as investigators continue probing possible links to wider drug trafficking networks within Nairobi and beyond.

Authorities say the arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven crackdowns targeting narcotics supply chains in urban informal settlements.

Police intensify anti-drug campaign

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and substance abuse, warning that operations targeting drug peddlers will be sustained across the country.

Police also urged members of the public to continue sharing information on suspected drug activity through official reporting channels, including emergency hotlines and anonymous tip lines.

Officials say the crackdown is part of broader efforts to curb rising drug abuse, which continues to affect youth and contribute to crime and insecurity in urban areas.

The incident comes days after a 68-year-old woman was arrested in Athi River during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The operation involved the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), who acted on information linking suspected narcotics activities within Mutete Flats and surrounding areas.

The person of interest was intercepted at the main entrance of Mutete Flats while riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle. Officers stated that the interception was part of surveillance activities targeting individuals suspected of involvement in cannabis distribution networks operating within the area.

During a search conducted at the scene, officers recovered three handbags containing packages of Cannabis Sativa. The items were secured as exhibits for further analysis. The suspect was taken into custody and escorted for processing ahead of court proceedings.
