Police recover firearm in Huruma estate
The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the recovery of a firearm in Nairobi’s Huruma estate, Starehe Sub-County, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
According to the NPS statement, officers made the recovery during a routine night patrol in the early hours of 19th November 2025. During the patrol, the men in uniform encountered a suspicious individual who, upon noticing the police presence, fled the scene.
Firearm dropped
”During the pursuit, the suspect dropped an item before disappearing into a dark passageway. Officers secured the area and recovered the firearm, which has since been documented by crime scene personnel. The weapon is now in safe custody, pending further examination,” the NPS statement said in part.
The National Police Service has also confirmed that efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect are ongoing, with the relevant investigative teams handling the matter.

Disarmament efforts in Rift Valley
Elsewhere, police in Baringo County also received four illegally held firearms, which were voluntarily surrendered in Orus Location, Tiaty East Sub-County, on Friday, November 14, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 15, 2025, the NPS said the move is a step forward in their disarmament efforts within the region.
”This surrender reflects the community’s growing trust in ongoing government-led peace and disarmament efforts. The rifles were handed over together with four magazines and eight rounds of ammunition. All items have been placed in secure custody pending further administrative action,” NPS said.
The latest recovery contributes to the continuous progress in Baringo County, where a total of 396 illegal firearms and 1,503 rounds of ammunition have now been surrendered through collaborative security operations.
Similarly, the same exercise in Elgeyo Marakwet County continues to yield positive results. In the latest development, a member of the public from Embolot Location voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 rifle, loaded with three rounds of ammunition, at the Embobut Police Station on November 13, 2025. A total of 310 illegal firearms, 2,202 rounds of ammunition, and one fragmentation rifle grenade have so far been voluntarily surrendered in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The National Police Service has also been appreciating the cooperation of local leaders and community members, whose ongoing support is vital to strengthening regional stability and promoting peaceful coexistence. However, members of the public are encouraged to continue providing information to aid in the recovery of all illegal firearms.
