Five police officers suspected of aiding Nairobi’s Kware serial killer, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha and 12 others escape from the Gigiri police station, Nairobi, will know their fate today on whether they will be detained for 14 days or not as sought by the investigating officer.
The suspects, Ronald Babo, Evans Kipkirui, Mollent Achieng, Zachary Nyabuto and Gerald Mutuku were yesterday arraigned before the Milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Nanzushi seeking detention orders of the five respondents awaiting the conclusion of Investigations.

Remandees escape
The officer told the court that the five officers were on duty when the remandees escaped from custody.
“Babo was the duty NCO, Kipkirui cell sentry, Achieng and Nyabuto were guarding the station while Mutuku was the report office personnel,” Kaulu told the magistrate.
The officer also said that the Investigations have commenced though not complete and are based on recording statements from over five witnesses, adding that the mobile phones belonging to the respondents have been presented to Cyber-crime unit based at DCI Headquarters forensic lab for further analysis.
The court further heard that the CCTV footage has been obtained and taken to the Cyber-crime unit for analysis and the report is not ready.
In convincing the court to offer his pleas, he said that there are other accomplices who are still at large and the respondents have shown their willingness to lead to their arrest and this will not be accomplished if they get released at this stage.
He prayed the respondents be detained at Spring Valley Police Station, Runda Police Station and Parklands Police Station in Nairobi to allow him conclude Investigations.
In her ruling, the magistrate cited that the matter is very serious and called for adjournment to today to make a ruling on whether to grant the period sought or not.
This follows their arrest on Tuesday after the 13 suspects, 12 believed to be Eritrean nationals and the Kware serial killer, Collins Jumaisi escaped the Gigiri police station cells under their watch.
The Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli who had visited the station on Tuesday had informed the media that the preliminary investigations indicated that the escape was aided by insiders.
“I have interdicted eight officers who were on duty that night including the Gigiri sub-county police commander, OCS, duty officer, station guards and report office personnel,” Masengeli said.
