Police nab one in Mumias, seize narcotics worth Ksh300K
Police in Mumias West Sub-County, Kakamega County, have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with narcotic drugs valued at Ksh300,000.
The arrest was made along the Bungoma–Mumias road in Lukoye village after officers acting on intelligence intercepted the person of interest on Friday.
“A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Mumias West Sub-County, Kakamega County, for trafficking narcotic drugs,” read the NPS post dated September 20, 2025.
“The arrest occurred yesterday, 19th September 2025, along the Bungoma–Mumias road. Officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted the suspect in Lukoye village.”
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation led to the recovery of 40 brooms of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of Ksh300,000. The person of interest is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court.
“He was found in possession of 40 brooms of cannabis sativa with an estimated street value of KSh 300,000. The suspect is currently in custody awaiting arraignment in court.”
NPS commended the officers involved for their vigilance, noting the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal drug trade in the region. “The National Police Service commends the officers for their vigilance and reiterates its commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and related crimes.”

Linked Operations in Migori
The Mumias arrest came just a day after another major police operation in Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County. On Thursday, September 18, officers raided a residential house next to Ladopharma Hospital in Kehancha Town, targeting individuals suspected of drug trafficking.
During the search, police arrested a 46-year-old woman and recovered a black bag containing 179 rolls of cannabis, four packets of Super Match Export cigarettes, and Ksh21,140 in cash believed to be proceeds of the illicit trade.
A second person of interest was arrested in a separate room, where officers found additional cannabis and a 10-litre jerrican of chang’aa, a locally brewed illicit liquor. Both remain in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
The NPS has praised the swift action of its officers in both incidents, highlighting the importance of timely intelligence in breaking criminal networks. Authorities urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
