Police nab 9 linked to criminal activities in Kakamega
The National Police Service has announced the arrest of nine people following an intelligence-led operation in Bushangala, Kakamega South Sub-County, as officers intensified efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks in the region.
The arrests were made on Friday, December 5, 2025, during what police described as a carefully executed operation targeting individuals believed to be involved in violent activities and disruption of public safety.
According to the service, the persons of interest were rounded up after officers received credible information pointing to rising insecurity linked to a group operating within the area.

“Earlier today, officers from the National Police Service conducted a meticulous, intelligence-led operation in the Bushangala area of Kakamega South Sub-County. The operation resulted in the successful arrest of nine individuals,” the statement
The service added that the persons of interest are believed to have participated in a range of criminal offences.
“The individuals are suspected of involvement in organised crime, including criminal damage to property and assaults on police officers. They were found in possession of offensive weapons, including machetes, bows and arrows, and a club. The suspects have been placed in custody pending processing for arraignment in court, while the recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence at the police facility,” the statement reads.
Public help
Police further expressed appreciation to members of the public who provided essential leads that contributed to the arrests.
“The National Police Service commends the public for providing crucial information and the officers involved for their swift response, which led to the successful arrests and recovery of items,” the statement reads

The statement concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Service to maintaining law and order across the country.
“NPS remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public,” the statement reads
Residents in parts of Kakamega have in recent months raised concerns over sporadic cases of violence involving armed groups, prompting heightened surveillance and patrols by local police units.
The latest arrests are expected to provide a boost to ongoing operations aimed at restoring calm and discouraging criminal gang activities in affected communities.
