Police issue security update following Garissa attack
The National Police Service has issued a security update following an attack in Garissa that left a cheif and a teacher dead.
In a statement on the National Police Service official X account on Monday, January 26, 2026, the police confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday.
Meanwhile, the officers confirmed that officers are actively responding to a security incident while confirming that the incident happened in Hulugho area of Garissa County.
“The National Police Service (NPS) is aware of and is actively responding to a security incident that occurred earlier today, Monday, 26th January 2026, in the Hulugho area of Garissa County, in which a chief and a teacher were killed,” NPS said.
According to the National Police, the team is actively pursuing the perpetrators of the act.
While confirming that the area has been secured, the officers added that an operation is ongoing to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face the full force of the law.
“A multi-agency security team is actively pursuing the perpetrators of this cowardly act. The area has been secured, and an operation is ongoing to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face the full force of the law,” NPS added.
On the other hand, the officer has assured members of the public, more so in Hulugho, Garissa, that their safety and security remain a priority.
“We understand the anxiety and concern such incidents cause residents and all Kenyans. We strongly wish to reassure the public, particularly in Hulugho, Garissa County, that their safety and security remain our utmost priority. We have immediately heightened security patrols and operations in the region and its environs,” NPS confirmed.

The National Police Service has called on the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to cooperate with the security agencies.
Meanwhile, the officers have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident, which may assist the ongoing investigation, to contact their nearest police station.
The National Police Service, under the leadership of the Inspector General also added that it remains unwavering in its commitment to protect and serve the public.
