Police engage in a fierce gunfire exchange to recover stolen livestock
Following a report of stock theft made at Laare Police Station, a multi-agency security team responded and successfully intercepted armed bandits in the Ngitatu area.
In the quest to recover the stolen livestock, a fierce exchange of fire ensued, which overwhelmed the bandits and led to the recovery of 26 head of cattle and one goat.
”The livestock, which had been stolen from the Mea area, were returned to their owners. The National Police Service commends the officers and community members who supported the recovery effort. We urge continued cooperation in reporting suspicious activities,” the National Police Service said in a statement on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Similar operation
In a similar operation, police officers in Isiolo County have recovered 21 stolen sheep and goats following a coordinated patrol operation in the Burat area.
According to the NPS, a team from Kulamawe Police Station, working jointly with National Police Reservists, conducted extensive patrols across LMD, KMC, Mlango, and Leparua, about 25 kilometres west of the station, after receiving reports of livestock theft in the area.
The National Police Service also added that during the operation, officers engaged local elders who assisted in the recovery of the 21 animals, which were then handed over to their owners. The NPS further noted that security in the region has been intensified after the incident.
”Security patrols in the region have been intensified to pursue the criminals involved in the livestock theft and to ensure they face justice. The National Police Service commends the officers and community members who supported the recovery efforts and urges continued cooperation in reporting suspicious activities,” NPS said on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Security in Kerio Valley
On matters of security, the ongoing disarmament initiative in Kerio Valley Sub-County continues to yield positive results. On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Tot Police Station received two further illegally held firearms, which were surrendered voluntarily—an AK-47 and a G3—from Kaben and Arror Locations. This brings the total number of weapons recovered in Kerio Valley Sub-County to 290, along with 2,137 rounds of ammunition.
The National Police Service has commended the communities in Kerio Valley for their continued cooperation with the security agencies during this disarmament process. The Service has also encouraged residents to continue sharing information that could lead to the recovery of more illegal firearms.
