Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi now agrees with former Attorney General Justin Muturi on naming the opposition’s 2027 presidential candidate early.

Amisi used his X account on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, to argue that an early decision would expose leaders planning separate bids.

Speaking during the weekend, Muturi said, “Na kwa hivo mimi nataka kusema nikiwa hapa leo, na Mungu anisaidie. Kama haitakuwa mimi… mimi nitamuunga mkono ndugu yangu Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka kuwa mgombea urais ya upinzani.”

“I agree with Justin Muturi.

“Let us name our presidential candidate this early so that we separate wheat from chaff na mwenye anaenda solo aende sahi,” Amisi wrote.

The MP said the opposition should begin organising its numbers long before the General Election.

“We need to start counting our votes early, and if possible, we will announce early,” he said.

Amisi also declared his preferred candidate if he does not secure the presidential ticket himself.

“I also declare, kama sio mimi, my candidate is Edwin Sifuna,” he stated.

Sifuna currently serves as the Nairobi Senator.

Amisi called for opposition leaders to settle on a broad team and urged other presidential hopefuls to publicly state their preferred candidates.

“Can the rest declare and we come up with the best combination?” he asked.

Generational duty

The Saboti MP said opposition leaders would be pushed to work together despite their personal differences.

“We are going to force people to work together. It is not their choice as long as they are within the territory of the Republic of Kenya,” he wrote.

“It is a generational call for duty.”

Amisi also addressed the risks facing whoever becomes the opposition’s presidential candidate.

“In case the government kills him or her, we take up the next on line. We have plenty of potential leaders,” he said.

“Kama wewe ni muoga, ondoka we move to the next. Period.”

He ended his statement by calling for national renewal.

“Kenya needs a renaissance!”

His remarks add pressure on opposition leaders, who are divided over whether to announce a candidate early or wait for further negotiations.

Amisi maintained that delaying the decision could encourage separate presidential bids and weaken efforts to produce one opposition challenger for the 2027 election.
