Police recover stolen livestock in Marsabit
A multi-agency security team in Marsabit County has recovered 17 stolen goats in a successful operation that brought relief to pastoralist communities affected by livestock theft.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on October 5, 2025, the operation involved officers from Laisamis Police Station, National Government Administration Officers, National Police Reservists (NPR), and village elders.
The team tracked the stolen animals to Muguri Naarok, about 57 kilometres south of the police station, where the goats were recovered.
“A multi-agency security team, comprising officers from Laisamis Police Station, National Government Administration Officers, National Police Reservists (NPR), and village elders, has successfully recovered 17 stolen goats.”
“The recovery was made following a coordinated operation which tracked the stolen goats and found them in the Muguri Naarok area, approximately 57 kilometres south of the police station.”
Elsewhere, escalating livestock theft in Emusonga sparks the community’s call for unity against crime.
The livestock was taken to Laisamis Police Station for identification by the rightful owner. One person of interest linked to the theft was arrested and is set to be arraigned in court on Monday, October 6, 2025.
“The animals have been taken to Laisamis Police Station for identification by their rightful owner. One suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday.”

Community involvement key to recovery
The NPS commended the swift response and cooperation between officers, local administration, NPR, and community members, which led to the recovery and arrest.
The statement underscored the role of community involvement in addressing livestock theft, which remains a persistent challenge in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions.
The police urged the public to continue sharing timely information to help curb such crimes. Authorities emphasised that community vigilance is crucial in supporting security operations, particularly in areas prone to livestock raids and theft.
Drug bust in Vihiga county
Elsewhere, police in Vihiga County carried out a targeted operation that led to the recovery of rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Officers from Chavakali Police Station acted on a tip-off and raided a suspect’s residence in Walodeya Village, Chavakali Sub-location, on October 4, 2025.
During the search, 64 rolls of the substance were seized. The person of interest, a female, was arrested and is set to appear in court on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Vihiga Law Courts to face relevant charges.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and abuse. It said similar operations will continue across Vihiga County and the country as part of ongoing efforts to promote safety and security.
