More than 20 teenagers were on Monday arrested in Buruburu while attending a night party.

Buruburu Sub-County Police commander Adamson Bungei said officers raided the house at Mutunguru Court along Mumias South Road, after neighbours complained of noise.

The teenagers, aged between 15 and 18, refused to open the door, forcing the officers to camp outside the one-bedroomed extension for hours until the occupants opened the door and were arrested.

Juvenile delinquency

Bungei appealed to parents to monitor their children’s activities and asked those whose children were missing to check with the police.

He added that they were also involving the parents of the children in the investigations.

“We have launched investigations into the matter and will decide what action to take,” he said.

An amateur video showed the youth, most of them dressed casually and handcuffed, being led to the police vehicle yesterday morning.

Police reports indicate that there is an increase in juvenile delinquency, a fact that experts have attributed to prolonged closure of schools

According to Unesco, school closures have come with high social and economic costs for people across communities.

On October 20, some youth were also arrested along Dubois road in Nairobi while drinking in a club.

Late April this year, police also arrested 18 youth while partying naked at an apartment in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
