The phone number of Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, who is charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, was traced to Kileleshwa on the night she died, the court heard yesterday.

Phone data records produced in court by an officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and currently seconded to Safaricom Law Enforcement Office, show Jowie’s phone number at Kileleshwa on September 19, 2018, at 21.19 hours.

Kimani’s lifeless body was found in a bathtub with her neck slit ear-to-ear at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment in Kilimani off Dennis Pritt Road on the said date.

Jowie’s phone records show that at 1633hrs, he was at Dennis Pritt Road until 2103 hours. At 2119 hours, he was captured in Kileleshwa and at 2352 hours at DoD headquarters.

Court heard that the phone number was later captured at 2353 hours at Nairobi Gospel of God and 0003 hours at Madaraka National Housing Corporation.

On September 23, at 0657 hours, Jowie’s number was located at Kijabe Hospital and also on September 24 before it was later located at Gitaru and Langata.

The deceased’s phone records on the other hand were captured at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on September 19 at 0659 hours before later being captured at Embakasi corner then Kileleshwa.

Limo gave out Kimani’s phone details as of September 19, adding that no outgoing calls were made from Kimani’s number from 2300 hours on the same date.

“From September 19 at 2132 hours until September 24 we cannot locate, as there were only messages and forwarded calls,” Limo said.

The officer testified in the case where Jowie and Jacque Maribe have been charged with Kimani’s murder.

Limo also told the court that he was given seven numbers and only four were connected to the case. He said the numbers belonged to Jowie, Maribe, Monica and another for Ahmed Mustafa.

His task was to give out the details, location of the four numbers, and both incoming and outgoing phone calls.

The case proceeds today with cross-examination.
