Passaris hails Faith Kipyegon after historic women’s mile win
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has congratulated Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon for her record-breaking performance at the 2025 Athlos NYC, where she won her second Athlos Women’s Mile crown in a historic 4:17.78, the fastest mile ever run by a woman on U.S. soil.
The achievement took place on Friday night, October 10, 2025, at Icahn Stadium in New York City, further cementing Kipyegon’s dominance on the global stage.
Passaris’ message
In a post shared on her official X account on October 11, 2025, Passaris celebrated the world champion’s milestone, stating:
“Faith Kipyegon has won the ATHLOS Women’s Mile in 4:17.78, the fastest mile ever run by a woman on U.S. soil. Congratulations @Kipyegon_Faith on claiming your second ATHLOS title, a feat only possible for the G.O.A.T. that is the queen of the track, Faith Kipyegon!”
Her message was accompanied by an image of Kipyegon wearing a symbolic crown on the track, highlighting her status as one of the greatest middle-distance athletes in history.

Dominant performance in New York
The Athlos NYC meet, an invitational event designed to modernise athletics through entertainment and elite competition, featured some of the world’s fastest women. Kipyegon’s 4:17.78 finish outpaced a competitive field, including Britain’s Jemma Reekie, securing her place in the record books.
The event combined high-level racing with music and a vibrant atmosphere, offering athletes a unique platform to showcase their talent. Kipyegon’s victory at Athlos added another highlight to her stellar 2025 season, which began with a 2:29.21 over 1000m at the Diamond League in Xiamen, the third-fastest time in history.
Historic season
Kipyegon’s form has been unmatched throughout the year. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on September 16, 2025, she defended her 1500m title for the fourth time, clocking 3:52.15 to secure Kenya’s third gold medal.
Speaking after the race, she said, “This has always been my dream, to defend my 1500m title for the fourth time. Everyone out there was so talented; I knew I had to dig deeper than ever.”
On October 2, 2025, during a State House event, she urged male athletes to raise their game and acknowledged Kenya’s Ambassador to Japan, Moi Lemoshira, for supporting the team during the Championships.
Kipyegon’s record-breaking run at Athlos NYC caps a remarkable season, reinforcing her legacy as one of Kenya’s most decorated athletes.
