Passaris praises Kindiki after Gachagua impeachment case judgement
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has congratulated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following the High Court’s ruling on Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment case that affirmed the constitutional process that led to his assumption of office.
Taking to her official X account on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Passaris described the court’s decision as an opportunity for Kenya to move forward and strengthen confidence in the country’s democratic and constitutional institutions.
“Congratulations, Your Excellency Deputy President H.E. Dr Kithure Kindiki, on the court’s affirmation of the constitutional process that led to your assumption of office,” Passaris stated.
Passaris emphasised that leadership should not be viewed as a personal victory but rather as a responsibility anchored in service to citizens and stewardship of the nation’s future.
“Leadership is never about personal victory; it is about service to the people and stewardship of a nation’s future,” she said.

Focus on development priorities
She noted that the ruling presents a moment for national reflection and an opportunity to redirect focus toward development priorities such as job creation, security, healthcare, and education.
According to Passaris, Kenyans expect leaders to prioritise solutions that improve livelihoods and foster long-term prosperity.
“Our people expect solutions, jobs, security, quality healthcare, education, and a brighter future for the next generation,” she added.
The Nairobi Woman Representative further called on political leaders to embrace unity and avoid actions that deepen divisions within the country.
“Kenya needs leaders who build bridges, not walls; who unite, not divide; and who inspire hope rather than deepen polarisation,” she stated.
Passaris also reflected on the broader legacy of leadership, noting that history will judge leaders based on their contributions to national progress rather than political rivalries.
“As leaders, we must remember that our legacy will not be measured by the battles we fought against one another, but by the progress we delivered for the people we were privileged to serve,” she said.

Gachagua impeachment case ruling
The remarks come in the wake of heightened political and legal discourse following the High Court judgement on the impeachment case involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which has continued to attract varied reactions from political leaders and legal experts.
In a judgement delivered on Monday, June 8, 2026, the court ruled that while the impeachment itself met the constitutional threshold and would stand, aspects of the process fell short of fair trial standards guaranteed under the Constitution.
The court also ruled that the appointment of Kindiki as deputy president did not violate the constitution.
