Parliament starts funeral preparations for Johana Ng’eno
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 1, 2026Members of Parliament have begun funeral arrangements for the late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno.
In a statement released by the National Assembly through its social media pages on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Parliament dispatched a team to the Nairobi home of the late MP to kick-start the funeral plans of Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the Mosop area of Nandi County.
In photos shared by the parliamentary service commission, the commission’s staff are already at the MPs’ homes, carrying out their assignment.
“The Parliament of Kenya has started funeral preparations for Emurua Dikirr lawmaker Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon following his tragic death on Saturday evening. A staff planning team is already at the late MP’s Nairobi residence to offer support to the family and begin coordinating funeral arrangements for the late legislator,” read a statement by the National Assembly.
A separate team has been dispatched to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, where the remains of the late MP are being held after being evacuated from the scene of the accident to oversee its transportation to Lee Funeral Home.
Following the death of the MP, Tinderet MP Julius Melly and his Buuri counterpart, Mugambi Rindikiri, together with eight other MPs, were selected by the National Assembly speaker to liaise with the family to plan the funeral arrangements of the outspoken legislator, who was serving his third term in office.
The crash
The late Ngen’o met his death in Mosop Constituency after the helicopter he was travelling in, alongside five others, crashed in a forest at 4:45 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
According to authorities, the pilot encountered poor visibility due to heavy rainfall in the area and was forced to attempt an emergency landing.
Reports indicate that the pilot had brief interactions with herders in the area to assess the situation before taking off again, only for the aircraft to crash about 300 metres after takeoff.
All those on board were burnt beyond recognition, and the remains of the six were taken to MTRH for preservation.
Wetang’ula mourns Ng’eno
The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has mourned the MP as a devoted leader who served in three committees.
He chaired the Housing and Public Works Committee, which oversaw the construction of affordable housing nationwide, and was also a member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) and the Liaison Committee of the National Assembly.
More funeral and burial arrangements are set to be communicated in due course.
