ODM mourns the death of former Likuyani MP Enoch Kibunguchy

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has joined the people of Likuyani in mourning the death of Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy, a seasoned politician and public servant whose career spanned two constituencies and several electoral cycles.

The former legislator passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while undergoing treatment in an Eldoret hospital after a prolonged illness.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, ODM eulogised Kibunguchy as a dedicated and loyal party member who was elected the first Member of Parliament for the newly created Likuyani Constituency on the party’s ticket before his resignation to pursue his interests elsewhere.

“The Hon. (Dr) Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy was elected the first MP for the newly created Likuyani Constituency on the ODM party ticket. He was a dedicated and loyal member of the party before resigning from the party to serve his interests elsewhere. We join the people of Likuyani in mourning the death of this great servant of the people. May his soul RIP,” the party wrote on X.

Kibunguchy’s parliamentary journey began in 2002 when he was elected MP for the then Lugari Constituency, succeeding the late Cyrus Jirongo.

He served a full term from 2003 to 2007, a period during which he built a reputation for accessibility and advocacy for local development priorities.

However, following electoral boundary changes that split the original Lugari Constituency, Kibunguchy went on to make history as the founding MP for the newly established Likuyani Constituency.

He represented Likuyani for two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2022, overseeing the formative years of the constituency and championing initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and social services.

Kibunguchy’s ODM controversy

The former legislator once described Raila as a politician plagued by bad omens, citing how the ODM leader had lost former close allies, including William Ruto, among others.

He claimed that the deal was his political Waterloo for Odinga and that the opposition veteran leader had lost the whole of Kenya and his dream to lead the country.

“Raila does not know how to keep friends; Ruto, who is giving him sleepless nights, was his ally. After the Hague, Raila abandoned him and said everyone should carry his own cross,” he said.

“He has now lost Western, and whatever he does will never lead this nation. Ukambani, Turkana, North Rift, and other regions are also out of his grasp, so where else will he get the votes?” He posed.

Beyond politics, the politician was a professional medical doctor operating medical facilities in Eldoret Town and his home.

He also served in senior roles in Kenya’s health sector.
