Ocean water to treat ‘red eye’
Tuesday 06th February, 2024 02:00 AM|
Mombasa residents infected with the ‘red eye’ disease wash their face with salty sea water at the Likoni Ferry channel as a local remedy to treat the disease caused by Eldeno virus.
County data indicates that more than 1,000 people, a majority of them children, have been infected. Ministry of Health has advised affected persons not to use self-remedies but to stick to medical prescriptions.
Dr Patrick Amoth, the acting director-general, MoH, urges those with the symptoms—which include redness, discharge, swelling and bleeding—to see the doctor, immediately.
