NTSA investigating fatal accident along Mai Mahiu–Narok Road
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched investigations into a fatal road crash that occurred in the Nairegia area along the Mai Mahiu–Narok Road.
In a statement on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the authority confirmed that it is working jointly with the National Police Service to establish the circumstances that led to the accident, which involved a head-on collision after a driver lost control of the vehicle. At least eight people died in the accident.
NTSA also conveyed its condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the tragedy, describing the incident as a devastating loss.
“We assure the public that we are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash,” the authority said, adding that findings from the probe will inform evidence-based recommendations aligned with the National Road Safety Action Plan (2024–2028).
The agency noted that the recommendations will target key risk areas and guide interventions by relevant stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In the wake of the crash, NTSA announced plans to intensify “Operation Watoto Wafike Salama” across the country, particularly as schools reopen. The initiative focuses on enhancing the safety of children during the back-to-school period.
A multi-agency team is expected to roll out stricter compliance checks nationwide, with motorists urged to exercise heightened caution and responsibility on the roads.
The authority also called on parents, school administrations, and transport operators to prioritize child safety, directing all school transport providers to present their vehicles for inspection to ensure they are roadworthy.
NTSA reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to improve road safety standards, even as investigations into the Mai Mahiu–Narok crash continue.
