North Rift giants rise from slumber to shine in exams
Academic giants in the North Rift have defied the odds and bounced back to academic glory, posting impressive results in the just-released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
St Patrick’s High School, Iten, in Elgeyo-Marakwet County regained its academic glory after being in the cold for many years. It posted a mean score of 8.369, with four candidates scoring straight As and 41 others a mean grade of A minus.
The school had another 81 students with a mean grade of B plus, while 96 scored B plain.
Some 88 candidates scored a mean grade of B minus, while 74 scored C plus.
Chief principal Peter Rotich attributed the impressive performance to co-operation between teachers and parents.
“We also aspired to clear our syllabus early enough to enable the candidates to have ample time to revise. We thank God that our efforts have paid off,” said Rotich.
Also regaining its lost glory was Sing’ore Girls School, in the same county, after it produced one student with an A minus and 12 with a mean grade of B plus.
Some 34 students at the school scored a mean grade of B plain while 62 had B minus and another 92 scored had C plus.
Kapropita Girls
Also on the rise is Kapropita Girls High School in Baringo County, which posted a mean grade of 7.30, with three candidates scoring a mean grade of A minus and another 16 attaining B plus.
Some 36 students had a mean grade of B plain, 65 scored B minus and 63 had C plus. The school’s candidature was 273.
Other giants like Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi County and Moi Girls, Eldoret, maintained their tradition of posting good results.
At Kapsabet High, there was celebration after it produced 52 students with straight As and another 150 with A minus.
The school’s chief principal, Kipchumba Maiyo, said they were confident the school would produce good results.
“Our secret has always been to clear the syllabus on time and concentrate on revision. There is also a lot of co-operation between teachers and the board of management,” said Maiyo.
Another top performer was Moi Girls, Eldoret, which had 21 students scoring a mean grade of A plain while another 129 had a mean grade of A minus. Some 142 candidates scored a mean grade of B plus, while another 60 had B plain.
Also maintaining their academic excellence was Baringo High School ,which had a mean score of 8.3280 with one candidate attaining a mean grade of A plain while another 13 scored A minus.
The school also had 46 candidates scoring a mean grade of B plus while another 52 scored B plain. Another 63 candidates at the school scored a mean grade of B minus while 49 attained a C plus.
Kabarnet High School, in Baringo County, also did quite well. One candidate scored a straight A and another four had a mean grade of A minus.
Little-known Ossen
There were celebrations at Tabagon Girls High School in the same county after it produced 15 candidates with a mean grade of B plus. Another 73 scored B plain, 80 posted B minus and another 24 had a mean grade of C plus. The school posted a mean score of 8.4115. Little-known Ossen Secondary in Baringo North Sub-county beat other academic giants in the region with a mean score of 9.2.
One of the school’s candidates had a mean grade of A minus while another 25 scored B plus; 70 attained B plain, 57 had B minus and 12 scored C plus.
