‘No one has the right to abduct anyone’ – UDA MP states amid rising cases of youth disappearance
Keiyo South Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Kimaiyo has strongly condemned the rising cases of reported abductions in the country.
While calling for prosecution in the court of those who may have misused freedom of expression, the MP, elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the last general elections, said abductions should not be allowed in the country.
“No one has the right to abduct anyone. I urge the police to act swiftly and bring those responsible to justice. If anyone commits crimes related to computer misuse and cybercrime, they should be arrested and taken to court.
“Abductions must not be allowed to thrive in a country that values the rule of law. The police must act swiftly to identify the perpetrators, dismantle their networks, and ensure the safe release of those captured. Justice and accountability are non-negotiable,” Kimaiyo said in a post on X on Saturday, December 128, 2024.
However, the legislator condemned some of the AI-generated photos and silhouttes depictng the president saying they are disrespectul and should not be allowed.
“Tuambiane ukweli… freedom of expression does not give anyone the right to put the president in a coffin. It’s not just disrespectful it’s a gross misuse of that freedom. Respect and responsibility must guide our actions. We have to restore decency and civility in public discourse,” he added.
Waruguru’s take
His statement comes after former Laikipia County Women Representative Cate Waruguru also added her voice on the matter of abductions.
“Like millions of you across the country, I am outraged and heartbroken over the increasing cases of abductions and arbitrary arrests in various parts of the country.
“This unconscionable act is being committed in the full glare of our security services -who have since distanced themselves from these acts. But are we to believe that our security services are unaware of these abductions? That these abductions aren’t state-sanctioned?” Waruguru stated.
President William Ruto also added his voice to the cases of abductions during a public engagement in Homa Bay County on Friday, December 27, 2024.
