Strathmore Leos have sealed their berth in the semifinals of the Driftwoods 7s after emerging the winners in a 15-10 scoreline against a determined Nondescript team in the Main Cup quarters clash staged on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Mombasa.

A thrilling battle pitting the two sides saw both sides battle at close quarters as each side looked to keep eyes on the ball with a coveted semi-final spot at stake.

However, a moment of brilliance is all it took to call the war, as Leos made a count of a well-taken try to salvage the day and serve an anti-climactic end to the Nondies players and fans.

With the win, Leos joined Nakuru RFC among the teams to secure passage to the next phase.

Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequins’ quest for an unprecedented record-extending 14th Driftwood title came to an abrupt end at the hands of Nakuru Rugby Football Club on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Wanyore, as they are affectionately known, mounted a thrilling performance of grit and defensive determination to edge the reigning champions 19-17 in a clash staged earlier.

The Nakuru side headed into the tie on the back of mounting a stunning comeback against the Catholic Monks and Impala RFC teams.

Simon Kariuki’s charges rose from the dead following an opening group defeat to Kabras Sugar to claim successive wins against Catholic Monks and Impala RFC in 24-0 and 12-7 victories, respectively, and progress to the main cup quarters.

Speaking ahead of their clash against Nondies, Leos Gabriel Ayimba exuded optimism that the side’s teamwork, as manifested through their pool games, would push the team to greater heights.

“We hope for the best going into the quarter finals. I will be having another exam on Monday. So I hope we can win on Sunday and get me in the mood for the Monday exam,” he stated.
