Seventy-year-old former politician and TikToker Musembi Nthenge, who has recently captured the internet’s attention with his mastery of current trends and fluent use of Sheng, has revealed that he is searching for a girlfriend following the death of his wife in 2016.

Speaking during a popular podcast aired on Sunday, July 27, 2025, Nthenge shared that while he has female friends, he has yet to commit to any of them. His candid admission amused the podcast panellists.

Nthenge recounted his past, saying he had been married for many years. He met his late wife in 1981 after returning from the United States, and they began living together in 1982. They later held a wedding in 1983 after his father insisted on it, as his wife was pregnant at the time.

He described his late wife, who hailed from Jericho, as someone who had been by his side for decades before her passing in 2016.

“I have been married for many years. I married my wife in 1983, but I actually married her in 1982. I came from the States in 1981 and began staying with her in 1982, but that was just a come, we stay, but my father insisted we did a wedding in 1983 because in December of 1982 she was very pregnant, so it was a must she give birth, but my wife passed on in 2016,” he stated.

During the same interview, he stated that he wants to return to politics, saying that he wants to bring change since the current political dispensation is not addressing issues that affect the current generation, such as artificial intelligence, which, according to him, should be taken into consideration.

He went on to state that he tried running for a seat in 2021 during a by-election in Machakos after seeking advice from his father, who was alive at the time. His father had earlier advised him that the appropriate time to join politics is after 60, as by then one is more grounded and the family is already well-established.

Background history of Musembi

Otto Edward Musembi Nthenge is a Kenyan politician who ran as a candidate in the Machakos Senatorial by-elections under the FORD-Asili party, advocating for innovative economic and social solutions and the protection of constitutional rights.

He is the son of George Gregory Wilson Nthenge, a prominent figure in Kenya’s political history.

George Nthenge, born in 1927, was a veteran politician who played a significant role in Kenya’s independence struggle. He served as a Member of the Legislative Council (LEGCO) for Machakos District in 1960 and attended the Lancaster House Conference in London to help draft Kenya’s first constitution. He later served as MP for Iveti South from the 1960s to the 1980s and for Kamukunji from 1992 to 1997. He was also a founder of the FORD party.

A successful curio businessman, Nthenge began as a hawker in 1950 and had established a wood carving business in Machakos by 1953, exporting curios to Europe. His life was marked by tragedy in 1978 when a road accident in Maanzoni, Athi River, claimed the lives of his first wife and eight (or ten) children, leaving him with three broken ribs and his son Tony Muthembe with a broken leg.

He later married Scholastica Damaris Kavata, with whom he had four sons, all of whom are university graduates. George Nthenge passed away on August 10, 2021, at the age of 94 from COVID-19 complications at his Buruburu home in Nairobi. He was remembered by leaders such as former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua as a visionary and a key figure in Kenya’s history.
