Some 270 people, including four health workers, have succumbed to Coronavirus in Nakuru county since the first case was reported in the country last year March. 

According to a new report released by the Health Executive Kariuki Gichuki (pictured), 8, 431 cases have been reported in the devolved unit with 270 deaths, representing a 3.2 percent fatality rate.

“Of these cases, 8,145 (96.6 per cent) were local transmissions and 283 (3.4 per cent) imported,” the report says.

Interestingly, study further indicates that of the 8,431 confirmed cases, only 1,471 (17.5) presented symptoms associated with the disease while the rest were asymptomatic. 

The common symptoms among symptomatic cases include difficulty in breathing, chills, fever, cough and general body weakness, the report. 

In terms of distribution, Nakuru East leads with 2,164 cases followed by Naivasha (1,642), Nakuru West (1,149), Nakuru North (824), Rongai (731), Gilgil (599), Molo (347), Njoro (335), Subukia (173), Kuresoi South (97) and Kuresoi (North (94).

A total of 94,774 samples have been collected and tested to date out of which 8,431 turned out positive, yielding a positivity rate of 9.0 per cent, says report. Of the 841 confirmed cases, 6802 (81 per cent) were placed under the home-based care.

Currently, there are 88 patients under home-based care. In terms of vaccination, some 66, 693 people have received the jab with 24,092 being the elderly aged 58 years and above.

At the same time, there are 11 patients currently admitted in various hospitals, 10 on oxygen support.
