Advocate of the High Court Ndegwa Njiru has once again taken a swipe at President William Ruto’s administration, this time over the troubled Social Health Authority (SHA), after revealing that a hospital in Nairobi declined to accept his SHA cover.

Njiru, who shared his frustrations on X on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, stated that he had taken his 10-year-old son to a medical facility in the city, only to be turned away when he mentioned that he was covered under the new health plan.

“Contrary to what Kasongo has been lying to innocent Kenyans about SHA and bragging how you can walk into any facility and get your treatment, this morning I took my 10-year-old son to a medical facility within the city,” Njiru said.

He added that things quickly took a turn when he informed the receptionist that he was under SHA.

“On inquiry on the mode of payment I was to deploy, I proudly and confidently said niko na SHA. Hapo ndipo conversation yangu na huyo receptionist iliishia until I told her that a credible insurance,” he said.

The Social Health Authority, which replaced the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), has faced numerous challenges since its rollout, with mixed feedback from the public. Some Kenyans say the system is functioning as expected, while others report that it is still falling short. His experience adds to a growing list of Kenyans who have raised concerns about the new system’s readiness and accessibility.

In his statement, Njiru did not hold back his anger toward the SHA top officials, whom he accused of misleading the Kenyan public about the new health scheme.

“Nothing seems to be working in this country. Kasongo is a failure,” he wrote.

He ended his post with a stinging remark aimed at the government.“The only original thing remaining unchanged by Kasongo is the name of our country, Kenya,” he stated

Njiru’s comments come amid ongoing public debate about the effectiveness of SHA, with many Kenyans complaining of being turned away at hospitals and confusion over how the new program operates.
