Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has demanded clear communication from Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on the health status of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

In a post dated October 14, 2025, Njiru questioned the lack of official updates, urging Kindiki to address concerns directly.

“Mr Kindiki, please stop lecturing the opposition on Raila’s @RailaOdinga health. Instead, inform his supporters of his health situation. Is he fairly ill, or is he terminally ill? Is he in ICU or HDU, ama what is the situation? Why was he flown to India? Is it that he has no faith in our health facilities?” he posted on X.

Njiru’s remarks have intensified public debate at a time when Odinga, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, is receiving medical attention in India, as confirmed earlier this month by his brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga.

The absence of detailed updates has fuelled speculation, with Njiru’s post amplifying calls for transparency.

Govt and allies respond

Kindiki earlier addressed the issue during a function in Siaya County on October 13, 2025, where he reassured the public about Odinga’s health.

Speaking at an empowerment forum, he said, “Mimi nimeona kuna watu wameanza kutakia maovu wengine. Kwanza, kabla sijafika hapa, nimeomba ruhusa. Mheshimiwa Prime Minister Raila Odinga anajua niko hapa. Nimezungumza na yeye, vile Governor Orengo amesema, in the hearing of Governor James Orengo, in the hearing of Oburu Odinga.”

During the same event, Royal Media Services Chairman SK Macharia also sought to dispel speculation. He described Odinga as “very healthy” and said he had spoken to him that morning.

“When Oginga Odinga died, he left me two sons, Oburu and Raila. I am older than Oburu, and I have been supporting Raila in every election since 1992. Even this morning, I spoke to Raila Odinga, and he is very healthy, jumping. He is going to come back in a few days to join us,” Macharia said.

He also donated Ksh500,000 to support a boda boda empowerment initiative and urged riders to embrace digital tracking platforms for safety.

ODM accuses rivals of misinformation

Raila Odinga’s health has become a flashpoint between government and opposition politicians. On October 5, 2025, the ODM party accused the United Opposition, associated with impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa, of spreading misinformation.

“The political formation of impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his struggling team of Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, among others, are on a familiar campaign of misinformation on the health of former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga,” the party stated.
