Seasoned politician-cum businessman Johnson Muthama has told President William Ruto to seize the unique opportunity granted to him by the Kenyan people to overhaul his governance system.

Muthama through his official X account on Saturday, July 6, 2024, urged the Head of State to utilize the chance the Gen Zs have provided and inject fresh momentum into his administration.

Muthama on Ruto’s mistakes

Muthama who is one of the founders of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party where he previously served as the chairperson, emphasized the need for the President to correct past mistakes and steer the country towards a path of sustainable prosperity.

“The President William Ruto should seize the opportunity granted to him by Kenyans to reboot his governance system and inject fresh impetus into his administration. This rare moment allows him to correct past mistakes and steer the country toward prosperity,” Muthama stated.

The former Machakos County Senator’s call comes at a time when President Ruto’s administration is grappling with various challenges, including economic instability, corruption, and public dissatisfaction.

Ruto’s X Spaces engagement

On Friday, July 5, 2024, President Ruto engaged the Kenyan youth through X Spaces, where he faced various questions regarding his administration.

Netizens got an opportunity to directly express their dissatisfaction with Ruto’s administration, with a section calling for a reorganization of his government.

The issue of corruption, opulence and arrogance among the people in his government dominated the X Spaces that lasted from 2pm to 5pm albeit technical challenges.

Ruto admitted the presence of arrogance among some of the state officers, stating that he has even had a chance to sit down some of them.

Anti-Ruto protests

The first in command is the one who called for the X Spaces to have an engagement with the Kenyan youth following intense anti-government protests that last three weeks.

The protests were fueled by the controversial Finance Bill 2024, which Kenyans opposed over various tax proposals that it was carrying.

Following the protests, President Ruto succumbed to the pressure to withdrew the controversial Bill, stating that he had had the voice of the Kenyan youth.

However, the protests continued, with Kenyans now demanding his removal from office, over his failure to fulfil some of his promises.

The anti-government protests made Ruto to promise an engagement with the youth, noting that they will be involved in chatting about the success of the country going forward.

Prior to his X Spaces meeting with Kenyans, President Ruto had addressed a press conference where he promised to make changes in his government as requested by Kenyans.
