Murkomen highlights security gains, pledges peace ahead of by-elections
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that ongoing security reforms are restoring peace and stability in areas previously affected by crime and banditry.
Speaking during a Sunday service at St. Luke Methodist Church, Kariene, in Meru County, on November 16, 2025, Murkomen engaged with local leaders and residents to highlight government progress.
“Joined other leaders and faithful at St. Luke Methodist Church, Kariene, in Meru County for Sunday service and to support ongoing development initiatives within the community,” he posted on X.
Operation maliza uhalifu success
Murkomen detailed the achievements of Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a multi-agency initiative targeting banditry.
“I apprised residents of our sustained security efforts, including the now successful Operation Maliza Uhalifu, in curbing banditry across the county and region. We are scaling up the operation to secure lasting peace and fast-tracking operationalisation of more administrative units in the county to bring key government services closer to the people,” he said.
His remarks reflect the government’s strategic approach to security through intensified patrols and strengthened administrative structures.

Readiness for by-elections and police recruitment
The Cabinet Secretary also addressed upcoming electoral processes, emphasizing preparedness.
“I also reiterated our readiness to maintain peace and security during the upcoming by-elections in parts of the country, and affirmed our commitment to an equitable, free, fair, and transparent police recruitment scheduled for tomorrow,” Murkomen added on X.
The assurance comes ahead of 24 by-elections slated for November 27, 2025, which will test the stability of President William Ruto’s coalition.
During his appearance before the Senate Plenary Committee on November 5, 2025, Murkomen reiterated the Ministry’s resolve.
“As a Ministry, we remain steadfast in our commitment to transparency and accountability through parliamentary oversight, ensuring the continued safety and security of our nation,” he said.
He highlighted intelligence-led operations in restoring calm. “Through intelligence-led operations, our security agencies have restored stability in banditry-prone regions, contained urban crime, and strengthened public safety,” he noted.
Community engagement and security reforms
Murkomen emphasised the role of community involvement through Jukwaa La Usalama.
“Guided by insights from Jukwaa La Usalama, we continue to implement far-reaching reforms, including fast-tracking the modernisation of the National Police Service, to enhance institutional capacity, efficiency, and responsiveness,” he explained.
The modernisation efforts include investments in training, technology, and infrastructure to address emerging threats such as terrorism and cybercrime. His statements signal a government focus on a responsive and accountable security framework.
