Murkomen: Govt committed to transforming police into disciplined institution

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has released a statement following his presiding over the graduation ceremony of the Potential Instructors Course No. 1/2025 at the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus.
The ceremony, held on July 1, marked the completion of a specialised training programme aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of police instructors within the National Police Service. The course is part of ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional, disciplined, and service-driven police force.
“We are committed to transforming the National Police Service into a more professional, disciplined, and service-oriented institution. We aim to build public trust and ensure responsive and effective policing for all Kenyans through continuous professional development and training.
“Pleased to preside over the successful graduation of Potential Instructors Course No. 1/2025 at the National Police College, Embakasi A Campus,” he said.
The training focused on equipping officers with modern skills necessary to respond to emerging security trends. Key areas of instruction included the use of technology in policing, leadership and management, effective communication, and community policing strategies. These components are intended to improve the overall quality of service delivery and foster greater public trust in the police service.

“This rigorous programme is specially designed to equip officers with skills to tackle emerging trends in the security sector, including the integration of new technologies in policing operations,” he added
“The course also covers leadership and management, communication, community policing and other key competencies to enhance their professionalism and service delivery,” the CS stated further.

“I was joined by Deputy Inspector General of Police (APS) Gilbert Masengeli and the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus Commandant Davies Lomwatu, among others.” He concluded
The graduation reflects the government’s broader commitment to security sector reforms through continuous professional development and investment in human capital.
This comes at a time when the police service has come under scrutiny, with the public spotlight now turning on it over the recent instances where the police have used excessive force against citizens they ought to protect.
