Murkomen explains why Natembeya’s security detail has been withdrawn
By Luke Oluoch, November 26, 2025Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has shed light on the withdrawal of the security detail of several politicians ahead of the by-election set to be conducted across the nation on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Speaking on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Kasipul, Homa Bay Constituency, Murkomen confirmed that Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya was among the affected individuals.
Security withdrawn
According to the CS, the measure was adopted after police disclosed that some of the officers were involved in criminal activities.
“Other than Natembeya, other politicians too have had their security withdrawn,” Murkomen confirmed while defending the move as a precautionary measure.
“NPS has reports that officers attached to them are involved in criminal activities. Some have chosen to keep quiet and not to share. Others have decided to go public,” he added.
He additionally attributed the development to protecting the said officers.
“It is not an individual; it has happened across the divide. In any case, the campaign period came to an end. They will not be engaged in any activities up to and after the voting date. We want to ensure nobody is shot while claiming to protect his boss,” he added.

Murkomen’s remarks come after Natembeya raised concerns after his entire security detail was withdrawn in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, leaving him without protection.
Officers recalled
According to the governor, all six elite officers, including his driver, were recalled and instructed to report to the nearest police station.
“I received reports from my officers that they had been instructed to go to the nearest camp. Those from the GSU are to report to the nearest camp. My driver was asked to report to the nearest police station. Now, I don’t have any security officers with me or at my residences,” Natembeya said in an interview.
The governor recently sent a stern warning against attempts to manipulate the highly charged Malava by-elections while campaigning in the region.
The firebrand governor, however, remained unflinching, stating that he would not be cowed into silence nor compromised in his fight against bad governance.
