Murkomen calls on Kenyans to exploit reforms in ID registration
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans to leverage the new reforms in civil registration procedures to acquire essential documents, including national identification cards and other civil documents.
Speaking on Friday, August 22, 2025, during a Jukwaa LaUsalama tour of Kirinyaga County, the CS highlighted that the government had streamlined the process to enhance the uptaking of the documents.
“I urged the residents to take advantage of our reforms, which include fast-tracked issuance and zero charges for first-time applicants, to register for the vital document in the 12 national ID registration units in the county,” he said.

While assessing the mobile ID and civil registration sites at the county’s Huduma Centre grounds, the CS pledged to increase the number of registries for birth and death certificates in the area to four.
He stated that the plans are part of a wider plan to enhance service delivery and address the growing demands of the burgeoning population of the area.
“There are three registries for the issuance of birth and death certificates in the county. To enhance service delivery, we are operationalising an additional registry before the end of the year as we await more resources to cover all the subcounties,” he stated.
Murkomen’s pledge came moments after he paid a courtesy call to Governor Anne Waiguru.
Taking to his X page moments earlier, the CS revealed engaging the county boss in a discussion on strengthening collaboration on service delivery between the national and the county government.
He further expressed his commitment to help the county’s fight against the menace of illicit brew in the region.
“I paid a courtesy call on Kirinyaga Governor @AnneWaiguru as part of my Jukwaa La Usalama tour of the county. Our discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between the two levels of government, which is critical for enhanced service delivery to the people. Cooperation between the county government and our security agencies is particularly key to winning the war on illicit alcohol and drug abuse,” he revealed.
