Mt Kenya ‘elders’ install Speaker Muturi as region spokesman
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was on Saturday March 6, installed as the Mt.Kenya spokesperson ahead of the 2022 General Election.
A group of elders from the four communities that make Mt.Kenya affirmed that the region is now stable and ready for the battle saying the long awaited owner of the “house” has been found.
Speaking at Njuri Ncheke shrines in Meru county, the elders from Kiama Kiama (Kikuyu), Nyangi Ndiririri (Embu), Ngome (Mbeere) and Njuri Ncheke (Meru and Tharaka) installed the Speaker as their kingpin.
In a twist of events, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary(CS) Peter Munya who shortly stormed the meeting accused Muturi of not inviting him to the event despite landing in Meru soil.
“When a child come knocking the door of the house, he is welcomed and well fed and it doesn’t matter if he has used the front or thevback door. If he is homeless, we give him a land to settle” lamented Munya.
The ceremony that was attended by hundreds of elders, however, seemed to be a game changer overshadowing the popular CS and the widely looked at veteran governor Kiraitu Murungi from taking over the mantle of kingpin.
“We have just began the journey, wait for more steamer news because now the mountain has been flattened and the region is united and ready to walk together in one direction ,” said Kungu Muigai, patron of the Kiama Kiama council of elders .
Kungu further said the agenda of ‘Wazee’ cannot be taken for granted since their aim is not to be involved in politics but to see a united region where leaders speak one voice and work towards the receiving end to avoid being left out in the cold after President Uhuru retire.
While donning him a traditional leadership attire, Njuri Ncheke leader Josephat Murangiri, however, warned him to never preach ethnicity, hatred or division but to unite the region.
“Muturi is the only person now close to power and capable to lead the region in greater heights,” said elder Benson Munyi.
Speaker Muturi accepted the endorsement and promised to build a firm and united Mt Kenya ahead of 2022.
“You cannot defy the elders call because that will be a curse and that’s why I am here. I have taken the war gear and I will not fail Mt.Kenya people whom I respect so much. I will fonder a great unity of our people and leaders so we form a powerful bargaining power in the next formation ,” added Muturi.
He at the same supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership and urged leaders criticizing his government to shun and allow the Head of State to deliver.
Muturi served as Siakago(now Mberee North) MP between 1999 and 2007 before losing to Lenny Kivuti .
Before becoming the speaker of the National Assembly for two terms he was a magistrate .
