MP Owen Baya recalls last family moments with his mother
Deputy leader of the majority side and Kilifi North Member of Parliament, Owen Baya, has shared his last moments with his mother, Mama Dorothy Baya, before her untimely demise.
In a post on his official Facebook account on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Baya recounted the day he was summoned by her mother for an urgent meeting, which he described as carrying a special message to his family.
“On 21St November 2025, my mother Dorothy summoned me, my brother Bishop Mwaro and our elder sister Charity Mapenzi for an urgent meeting. He had a special message for us,” Owen Baya explained in a lengthy statement.

At the time, Owen described that her mother opened up to them about an inner voice she kept hearing and that she could not resist the voice, as it was quite strong.
“Owen, Charity and Bishop, I have called you here today to tell you that my days here on earth are now few. I hear an inner voice calling me to another land. That voice is so strong that I cannot resist it. I have done all the things that God wanted me to do here on earth, and now it’s time to go home.”…,” Baya recalled.
On his part, Baya reminisced about how her mother consistently reminded them of how they were brought up in a grounded Christian faith and would want them to graciously follow the path.
“We swallowed,” she continued, “ I have brought up a good family grounded in Christian faith. God has blessed my womb, and I thank God for each of my children,” he explained.
The family dinner
Meanwhile, while explaining her last moments with the family, the legislator recalled how worried he was that her mother could not make it for Christmas in 2025, a fear that pushed him to organise an early family dinner.
At the request of her mother, Owen Baya called his family members for the family’s special dinner.

“Lastly, call my family and let’s have dinner together on an appropriate day and make it soon before I heed the call of God.”
“I looked at my mother and I couldn’t believe . We discouraged her from those thoughts but she insisted. She said it’s not her wish it’s the call, the voice from inside and she wouldn’t leave her family for anything but she has no control.”
“I told her we would do the dinner for her, but I made one request…. “ Mum, please, whatever you do, make it after Christmas. Give us time to allow us to celebrate Christmas with you” She smiled and said pray harder. Ask God to keep me, and so we prayed.”
The Kilifi North MP explained that he swiftly moved with the dinner plans and, on November 23, 2025, organised the dinner for her and celebrated with cake as they waited for Christmas.
Weeks after the dinner on December 22, 2025, just before Christmas, Mama Dorothy is said to have developed some health complications and was rushed to the hospital, where she is said to have had an acute attack.
“On 22nd December, my sister called me home. Mum had had an acute attack she needs to go to the hospital. I said it’s almost Christmas, why is God not giving us what we asked? She stayed in the hospital, very sick and on support,” he said.
“On Christmas Eve I asked God “just one more day God! Just one more day” on Christmas Day we sang Christmas carols and thanked God. In the afternoon, she was discharged. We saw the glory of God!,” he recounted.
