Kitutu South MP Antony Kibagendi has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, drawing parallels with the recent electoral defeat of Malawi’s outgoing president, Lazarus Chakwera.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page late Saturday, September 20, 2025, Kibagendi argued that no matter the number of State House delegations or public meetings President Ruto hosts, they will not guarantee him a second term in office.

Kibagendi pointed out that Chakwera, despite conducting 421 campaign rallies and hosting 114 delegations at State House in Lilongwe, still lost to his 85-year-old rival, Francis Mutharika, who held only 17 rallies.

The legislator noted that Chakwera’s overconfidence was such that he had already printed swearing-in invitation cards, which his allies distributed ahead of the election, only for the president to be handed a shocking defeat.

“Outgoing president Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi did a total of 421 campaign rallies and hosted 114 delegations in State House Lilongwe but still lost to his main opponent, 85-year-old Francis Mutharika. He had even published swearing-in invitation letters ahead of time, only for it to end in premium tears,” Kibagendi remarked.

He further cautioned that President Ruto risks facing the same fate, warning that state resources cannot buy public trust.

“Ruto can spend all our SHA funds, school capitation funds, and splurge on delegations and empowerment forums, lakini lazima ataenda,” the MP warned.

Teachers visit to statehouse

The remarks come as President Ruto intensifies meetings at State House. In the most recent case, 10,000 teachers were hosted and promised various benefits, with each receiving Ksh10,000 as facilitation, bringing the day’s expenditure to Ksh100 million.

The move to facilitate teachers with Ksh10,000 was confirmed by KUPPET chair Omboka Milemba, who came out to vehemently defend the president for doing so

While appearing on a morning show on a local TV station on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, he stated that the money was meant to reimburse the teachers who had used their own money to travel to State House.

“The transport reimbursement for teachers was Ksh10,000,” he said.

He further warned Kenyans against concentrating only on the minor issues, such as the facilitation fee, while overlooking the raft of issues that they discussed on that day.
