‘Parliament will reject the new cabinet unless it reflects the diversity of Kenya’ – MP Kaluma says ahead of CS vetting
Homa Bay Town constituency Member of Parliament (MP) George Peter Kaluma has revealed that the National Parliament will reject the new cabinet if it does not reflect the face of Kenya.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Kaluma said that people from all ethnic groups, regions, gender equality and persons living with disability should be included in the new cabinet.
He further stated that nominees of the new cabinet must be people with integrity.
“Parliament will reject the new Cabinet unless it is competent, has integrity, and it reflects the diversity of Kenya/ the face of Kenya, all regions, all ethnic groups, age groups, persons living with disability, gender balance. Article 232, Constitution of Kenya,” Kaluma said.
New Cabinet vetting
On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula received a list of the first ten nominees appointed as Cabinet Secretary.
Addressing the MPs, Wetang’ula notified the lawmakers about the names of the new cabinet nominees he had received from President William Ruto.
“Honorable Members, I wish to convey to the House that I have received a Message from President William Ruto notifying the nomination of various persons for appointment to the Offices of Cabinet Secretaries,” Wetang’ula said.
“The nominees are scheduled to appear before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments to be vetted. The Committee shall consider the matter and table a report in the House within twenty-eight (28) days.”

CS nominees
Ruto, on July 19, 2024, during a press briefing at State House Nairobi, announced the nomination of the first batch of individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries.
“Consequently, I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country. I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General,” Ruto said.
The persons nominated in the new cabinet are, Kithure Kindiki as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior & National Administration, Dr Debra Mlongo Barasa as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Health, Hon. Alice Wahome, as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Julius Migos Ogamba as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education and Hon. Roselinda Soipan Tuiya as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence.
Others include; Andrew Mwihia Karanja as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Aden Barre Duale as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Eric Muriithi Muuga as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Davis Chirchir as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport and Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy.
