Nairobi County Head of Customer Care Services Geoffrey Mosiria has raised an alarm over rising pedestrian deaths along Mombasa Road after witnessing dangerous road use, warning that failure to use footbridges is costing lives.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, April 4, 2026, aMosiria said that he observed risky crossings along the busy highway within Nairobi. He described witnessing pedestrians ignoring footbridges and dangerously crossing the busy Mombasa Road despite fast-moving traffic, putting their lives at serious and immediate risk.

“This evening along Mombasa Road, I witnessed a deeply concerning situation where some pedestrians blatantly disregarded traffic rules, avoiding designated footbridges and instead risking their lives by crossing busy roads amid fast-moving traffic. This dangerous behaviour continues to put lives at risk and has contributed to a worrying number of fatal accidents on our roads,” the statement reads.

Geoffrey Mosiria pointed out the growing reports of pedestrians being knocked down while crossing at undesignated points, stressing that many of these deaths could be avoided by simply using safe crossing areas.

“We have received multiple reports of pedestrians being knocked down while attempting to cross in unsafe areas. These tragic incidents are entirely preventable if proper crossing points are used,” he wrote.

He announced that county officers will be deployed along the road to enforce safety rules, but maintained that enforcement alone will not solve the problem without public cooperation.

“Our county officers will be deployed to enforce compliance and enhance safety along these roads. However, enforcement alone is not enough we all have a role to play in promoting road safety,” Mosiria wrote.

He urged pedestrians to take personal responsibility for their safety by consistently using footbridges and designated crossings to avoid preventable accidents and loss of life.

“I appeal to all pedestrians to prioritise their safety by using footbridges and designated crossings at all times. Your life is invaluable. Let us work together to build a culture of responsibility and awareness on our roads, where every journey, whether by foot or vehicle, ends safely,” the statement reads.
