Mosiria condemns landlord over raw sewage crisis in Pipeline apartment
By Mustafa Juma, August 14, 2025Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has exposed shocking living conditions caused by a negligent landlord in Pipeline Estate in Embakasi South Sub-County.
Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Mosiria stated that he had personally visited the site following complaints from distressed tenants.
Upon visiting the said affected apartment, Mosiria says he found that blocked toilets had led to raw sewage spilling across floors and into bathrooms.
The stench, Mosiria says, permeated the entire apartment complex, creating a hazardous environment for residents.
“Today in Pipeline, Embakasi South, I was shocked to witness the deplorable conditions tenants are being subjected to by a negligent landlord. Blocked toilets have caused raw sewage to spill across floors and into bathrooms, creating an unbearable stench throughout the apartment building,” Mosiria stated.
Failed main sewer line
According to Mosiria, the main sewer line appeared to have failed, yet the apartment’s management had taken no action to resolve the issue.
The building houses dozens of families, including young children, now at risk of serious health problems due to prolonged exposure to the unsanitary conditions.
“The main sewer line has clearly failed, yet the landlords have taken no action to address the situation. This apartment complex houses numerous families, including young children, who are now exposed to serious health risks due to the unsanitary conditions. Such neglect is both unacceptable and dangerous,” he stated.
“I personally responded to complaints from distressed tenants and assured them that immediate action will be taken. We will hold the apartment management accountable and ensure they comply with health and safety standards without delay.”

Crackdown on landlords
This comes barely a month after Mosiria issued a tough warning to landlords in the Pipeline area of Embakasi South over rampant illegal garbage dumping that had choked estate roads and created an environmental hazard.
Speaking during a cleanup exercise in the area on Monday, July 21, 2025, Mosiria condemned the irresponsible disposal of waste by tenants, attributing the worsening sanitation conditions to neglect by property owners.
“Today, we continued with our environmental cleanup exercise in Embakasi South, Pipeline area, where estate roads have been blocked by garbage irresponsibly dumped by tenants. As the Nairobi City County Government, we are committed to restoring order and maintaining cleanliness in Pipeline and its surroundings,” Mosiria stated in a caption accompanying his video message shared via X.
He directed landlords to ensure all their tenants have their waste collected directly from their households, either through registered Private Service Providers (PSPs) or accredited Community-Based Organisations (CBOs).
He made it clear that any further violations would be met with arrests and prosecutions.
