Mombasa: Police nab man with dummy pistol, ammunition and Somali sword
Police officers from Kiembeni Police Station in Mombasa County have arrested a 25-year-old man in Utange Village, Kisauni Sub-County, following a distress call.
The person of interest is said to have threatened a 21-year-old woman and was found in possession of a dummy pistol, a pistol magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a Somali sword, three mobile phones, and a whip.
The National Police Service (NPS) commended the swift response that led to the apprehension, highlighting its commitment to public safety.
“Police officers from Kiembeni Police Station in Mombasa County swiftly responded to a distress call in Utange Village, Kisauni Sub-County. A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested after threatening a 21-year-old lady,” the NPS post dated August 30, 2025 read.

Recovery of weapons
According to the NPS, officers responded promptly to the distress call and conducted a search that revealed the arsenal.
The person of interest owned a Somali sword, alongside mobile phones and other items. The rapid intervention underscores the efficiency of local police operations in curbing potential threats before they escalate.
“Upon search, officers recovered a pistol magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a dummy pistol, a Somali sword, three mobile phones and a whip,” read the post.
Public advisory
The person of interest remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, September 1, 2025. “The suspect is in custody and will be arraigned before the court on Monday, 1 September 2025.”
The NPS reiterated its dedication to public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. “The National Police Service commends the quick response of the officers and assures the public of its continued commitment to their safety and security.”
