Former and current senior employees of financially troubled Moi University are embroiled in a fight with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company over the ownership of Sh30m prime one-and-a-half acre plot.

The contested property is located near Eldoret Airstrip along the busy Eldoret-Iten highway, some two kilometres from Eldoret City’s central business district.

The row over ownership of the property took a new twist on Saturday after the enraged staff stormed the parcel of land and destroyed a fence that had been erected by the company.

This was after they woke up to a rude shock when they found their undeveloped plot erected with a permanent fence by a contractor hired by the Eldoret-based Water Company, which has laid claim to the property.

Led by Alice Opija, the victims of alleged land fraud scam accused the water company of laying claim to the plot without showing ownership documents.

Opija said they have original title deeds for the plot, which they acquired over 30 years ago noting that the water company was out to disposes them of their property they acquired through legal means.

A contractor who had been hired by the company to fence off the section of the disputed plot was forced to flee on foot with his workers after the rowdy staff stormed the site.
