The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH)- Eldoret has reviewed its security and safety measures amid a puzzle that saw two patients murdered at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.

In a notice to the public on Friday, August 1, 2025, MTRH indicated that their visiting hours will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the evening.

In the notice, they also stated that the hospital will not allow more than two visitors at any given time to see a patient at their facility.

Patient visits

“In compliance with the Ministry of Health directive to improve safety and security, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) wishes to inform the public that effective August 1, 2025, each patient will only be allowed a maximum of two visitors at a time,” MTRH said.

“Visiting Hours will be strictly: Lunch: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm and evening: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. We urge all visitors to adhere to the above guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.”

The development comes just days after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced a series of safety and security reforms targeting all hospitals in the country after convening a crisis meeting with facility bosses.

Double murders

Duale stated that the measures follow the death of a patient at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on July 11, 2025, an incident that exposed gaps in patient safety and hospital security systems.

“Following the tragic loss of a young Kenyan at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on July 11, 2025, I convened a crisis meeting with CEOs of all national referral hospitals to initiate urgent reforms and rebuild public trust in our health system,” Duale said.

Duale said the reforms, unveiled after a crisis meeting with CEOs of national referral hospitals on Monday, July 28, 2025, will focus on enforcing tighter security protocols, improving quality assurance systems, and ensuring accountability in the management of patients.

He added that, effective immediately, referral hospitals will implement a two-visitor limit per patient and mandatory screening at all entry points to enhance security.

“Effective immediately, all referral hospitals will enforce tighter security measures: a two-visitor limit per patient and mandatory screening at entry points,” Duale said.
