Mike Makarina slams Meru politicians still targeting Kawira Mwangaza after impeachment
Meru politician Mike Makarina has strongly criticised male politicians from the county for what he termed as continued insults and abuse directed at former Governor Kawira Mwangaza, despite her impeachment.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Saturday, August 23, 2025, Makarina expressed disappointment that even after Mwangaza was subjected to what he described as injustices, including her removal from office, some leaders still find it necessary to hurl derogatory remarks at her. He accused them of reducing themselves to shameless name-calling while claiming to respect and love their own wives at home.

“It’s unfortunate that after subjecting People’s Governor Hon. Kawira Mwangaza to all manner of injustices, even impeaching her, some men still shamelessly reduce themselves to insulting her and branding her with derogatory names, na Kiti chake walichukua, yet they go home to their wives they claim to love and respect,” Makarina states.
Makarina pointed out the irony of leaders who appear obsessed with Mwangaza’s name and suggested that if they are so fixated on her, they should go as far as renaming their wives after her.
Advice to women leaders
He urged women to stand together in solidarity, arguing that it is time they unite to defend one another from senseless attacks perpetrated by what he called ignorant and insecure men. According to him, when women rally behind each other, no amount of external noise can deter them from fulfilling their destiny.

Despite the political turbulence and constant attacks, Makarina noted that Mwangaza has remained strong and happy, a resilience that he said has strengthened his own faith in God. He concluded his statement with a message of hope, stating that indeed there will come a day of reckoning.
“It’s high time for women to rise, unite, and defend one another from the senseless attacks of ignorant and insecure men. When women stand with women, no amount of noise can shake their destiny, he added.
