Migori woman rep castigates Nyeri residents for celebrating Raila’s defeat

Migori woman representative Fatuma Mohammed has castigated politicians and a section of Nyeri residents for celebrating Raila Odinga’s defeat in the African Union Chairmanship (AUC) race.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the MP praised ordinary Kenyans for going out of their way to stand in solidarity with the former the prime minister.
The MP was particularly praiseworthy of those who expended their resources to reach Addis Ababa and offer support to Raila’s candidacy.
“We want Africa to know he was the best candidate and Kenya won, Africa lost because we gave them the best of the best. There are Kenyans who took loans and sold their cows to be in Addis Ababa. Some stayed on the roads for four days regardless of tribe party and age,” she said.
The self-proclaimed full network politician also spared a moment for Raila Odinga, hailing the bravery to contest another election despite his defeat in the 2022 loss.
”I also want to congratulate my Baba, the father of Africa and this country. Only a strong man like you would go for this position. Having gone through an election two years ago you go again for another one. Only a God-given man would do such a thing. I congratulate you and we celebrate you from the bottom of our hearts,” she said.
The lawmaker also hit out at the celebratory mood and chants that greeted Raila’s defeat in Nyeri after his defeat on Saturday elections.
A section of Nyeri residents broke into song and dance after learning about Raila’s AUC loss, with some claiming that they had been praying for his downfall at the AUC contest so that he could come back home and help fight Ruto’s regime.
Some argued that Raila should now team up with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and help in ousting President Ruto during the 2027 elections.
In her grievance, Fatuma hinted at a plan to mobilise votes for Ruto as a direct retribution.
“If you think Raila was not fit, why would you not give yourself in and see how many votes you would have garnered?” Fatuma posed.
“We want to tell the Wamunyoros who were dancing. shame on you! We are waiting for you. We love Ruto we will pay him back. We are waiting for you and we will embarrass you,” the MP added.
