MCAs to vet Sakaja’s chief officer nominees
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has presented 33 chief officer nominees to the County Assembly for vetting.
The list was tabled before the assembly on Tuesday by Speaker Ken Ng’ondi.
Making a comeback is Justus Kathenge (Boroughs and sub-county) and Patrick Akivianga (Urban, development and planning).
Marion Rono (Housing and Urban Planning) also served under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
According to the Speaker, the vetting should take place on December 22, 2022, and thereafter the reports will be tabled before the House for approval.
Initially, the County Public Service Board had presented a list of 128 candidates who had expressed interest in certain positions.
The board advertised for the positions last month.
Chief officers are the authorised persons in the exercise of delegated power and are answerable to the County Executive Committee (CEC) member.
Their key functions include the day-to-day administration of departmental activities and the provision of strategic policy direction for service delivery in their departments.
While CEC members are equivalent of Cabinet Secretaries in the national government, chief officers are equivalent of Principal Secretaries.
The power to deploy a county public officer within a department is vested in the county chief officer.
The ten CEC members appointed by Governor Sakaja (pictured) were sworn in last week after they were approved by the County Assembly.
