Mbarire calls for arrest of individuals behind destruction during fuel protests
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has urged security agencies in Embu County to intensify efforts in arresting individuals involved in the destruction of property during recent fuel protests witnessed in the county.
Speaking at Runyenjes Stadium today, Friday, 22nd May 2026, during an empowerment programme, the governor said those behind the acts of vandalism were well known and questioned why police had not yet taken action against them.

Mbarire noted that videos captured by some people in the demonstrations clearly captured some of the suspects engaging in the destruction of businesses and other properties during the protests.
“I want to urge security agencies to move with speed and arrest those who have destroyed property during fuel protests in Embu,” she said.
Govt action
The governor warned that failure by authorities to act firmly against perpetrators could encourage lawlessness and reverse development gains achieved in the county over the years.
She emphasised that Embu residents have worked hard to improve businesses and infrastructure, adding that such investments should be protected at all costs.

Peaceful picketing
Mbarire further said peaceful demonstrations are allowed under the Constitution, but destruction of property and violence should never be tolerated.
The governor called on security officers to ensure all those captured destroying property are arrested and prosecuted according to the law to deter similar incidents in the future.
Her sentiments were echoed by Kinyua Mugo, who expressed concern that continued incidents of violence and vandalism were negatively affecting the county’s investment climate.

Mugo said investors are becoming increasingly worried about insecurity and destruction of businesses, warning that such incidents could discourage both local and external investors from putting money into the county.
The leaders appealed to residents to maintain peace and safeguard development projects and businesses, saying unity and stability are key to economic growth and job creation in Embu County.
