Linturi’s fertiliser saga

After Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mithika Linturi was absolved by a parliamentary committee over the fake fertiliser saga, reactions are expected from leaders, stakeholders, and farmers.

Although the National Assembly had impeached Linturi, the former Meru senator was left off the hook by a mini-committee that was set up to investigate him over the fake fertiliser scandal.

Given the scale of the saga and the eventual decision to let Linturi go by the committee, this is a decision that is set to generate an intense debate in public forums.

Schools opening

The opening of schools for the second term is ongoing after the initial plans were postponed following the flooding crisis in the country.

Although a number of schools opened on Monday, May 13, 2024, others did not, and students are expected to continue reporting to their respective institutions across the day.

Over 3.5 million learners were scheduled to resume studies on Monday, but over 40 primary and 27 secondary schools across the country did not open as directed by the government.

Nyeri County, which had learners in 12 primary schools and 16 secondary schools, failed to open due to flooded toilets and classrooms.

In Kisumu County, five schools were submerged due to the backflow from Lake Victoria, while two primary schools in Pokot were inaccessible as the bridge leading to the institutions had been washed away.

Manchester City, Spurs duel

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will clash in a duel that carries a lot of stake in the Premier League title race.

If City win at Arsenal‘s north London rivals Spurs on Tuesday night, they will hold a two-point lead over the Gunners with one round of Premier League fixtures left.

On the Spurs’ side, they need a win even though they have an outside chance of beating Aston Villa to the fourth Champions League spot.

Although the odds are for the Citizens to win, they have indeed lost every league game at Spurs since the north Londoners moved to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019, with Guardiola’s side failing to score a goal in any of those games.
