Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i has affirmed that the Jubilee party is solidly in the united opposition.

In an interview with K24 TV on Monday, January 26, 2026, Matiang’i reiterated the commitment of the Jubilee Party in the United Opposition and said that the party is going to work with other parties affiliated to the United Opposition in the run-up to the 2027 General Elections.

“The jubilee party is in the united opposition to stay even though defiant members are working with our opponents, and we don’t want to get into the dramatic process of their dismissal because this is only going to distract us,” Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i has noted with concern that there are members of the Jubilee party working with the government side, including nominated members, noting that the party has resolved not to engage in their dismissal process, as this would disrupt their course and role in the opposition.

Reorganisation in Jubilee

Further, Matiang’i has defended the latest changes instituted by the National Executive Committee that saw new leadership assume office, saying that this was one way of restructuring and strengthening the party, adding that every member of the party has an equal right, regardless of their position in the party.

Although the United Opposition have not yet fronted a presidential candidate, Matiang’i has been named as one of the hopeful presidential candidates with the upper hand to be picked by the United Opposition to contest in 2027. Jubilee have been revamping the party to get it back to its popularity.

Jubilee popularity

With the party reorganisation, Jubilee has repositioned itself as a key stakeholder in the United Opposition, with former President Uhuru Kenyatta seemingly taking a lead from the back seat.

According to the latest TIFA Research survey released on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Jubilee’s support has surged from 3 per cent in August 2025 to 11 per cent in November 2025, making it the third most popular political party in Kenya behind ODM (20 per cent) and UDA (16 per cent).

TIFA attributed the increase in Jubilee’s popularity to Uhuru Kenyatta’s visibility and positioning within the party leadership ahead of the next general election.
